Won't you please, please help me?
"Help me if you can, I'm feeling down. And I do appreciate you being 'round. Help me get my feet back on the ground." Won't you please, please help me? - The Beatles Reaching out and asking for help when we need it is invaluable. The reality is most of us will not ask. This truth doesn't place responsibility on anyone else. Being that we all have mental health, that we all will be affected by Mental Illness in some form (if we have one, get one, or know someone who does) it’s important we learn what we can do to support someone. One of the first places to look at how we can help is in our communication... how do we reach out, how do we offer them our attention? I am at one of my favorite conferences of the year and a theme that keeps coming up is how our communication is changing because of social media and how this places a negative impact on really supporting someone and understanding what they are experiencing... it’s a whole other story when we pick up that five million pound phone to chat or make a plan for a face to face meet up. Who are you calling today? Who are you planning to spend some time with? You are so appreciated even if you aren’t always told by someone struggling. Food for thought :)
